Cannonball Flower Towel
The Cannonball Tree (Couroupita guianensis) is native to the rainforests of South and Central America. It bears fragrant yellow, with pink and red, flowers and large woody, cannonball-shaped fruit. In India, the Cannonball Tree is regarded as sacred by the Hindus. Buddhist scriptures recall Lord Buddha being born in the shade of this tree. The flowers are seen as a symbol of wealth in Asia. As with most rainforest plants, it has been used for many medicinal purposes. The juice extracted from the leaves, the fruit pulp, and bark have been used to treat skin ailments in humans and animals, disinfect wounds, cure colds, relieve pain, treat hypertension, tumors, and inflammation. In Ayurveda, the juice from the Cannonball fruit is used as an expectorant to treat bronchitis and chronic cough. The Shamans in South America used the tree parts to treat Malaria.
