Barrier Reef Towel

$65.00

The Great Barrier Reef is the world’s largest coral reef system, covering an area nearly 133,000 square miles off the coast of Australia.   The coral reef system is composed of and built by billions of tiny organisms called coral polyps.   It is the world’s biggest structure made by living organisms.  Unfortunately, over half of the reef’s coral cover has been lost since 1985.  The destruction of the reef is primarily caused by climate changes, coral bleaching, runoff, pollution, the dumping of dredging sludge, overfishing, and surges in crown-of-thorns starfish populations. The Great Barrier Reef has its own unique, complex, and delicate underwater ecosystem and supports a very diverse marine population that relies on the reef itself for survival.   While there are many organizations working to save the Reef, it is gravely at risk, along with all the organisms that depend on it.  Global Warming Wear is offering a glimpse of the beauty of this underwater world with our original watercolor depiction, Barrier Reef.
